Hello everyone

I have a serious problem, I also fear bugs, whenever I see them sweat will just pour off of me and I will scream and try my best to beat the bug down like I am fighting a human, for some reason I always anticipate hitting them, I have terminix coming out every three months, the bug man spray the outside of my house, throw pecticide in my yard, and also spray areas in the house, I have raid max bait, I have sprayed raid spray and everything, I don't see them that often, but everytime I get them off my mind, boom, one pops up, it's always a surprise when I see one. I don't know what to do, I just move into a house about 7 months ago, I have a 5 yr old, and I don't want to frighten him with my phobia, could anyone tell me what I can do to get over this phobia, it is ruining my life, I have prayed about it, that I never see one in my house, but so far my prayers go unanswered I guess that's not all that important in GOD eyesight I guess I need to pray in a different manner, maybe to have faith, and just let GOD do his work, anyway I could go all day and all night about this issue, I thought I was the only one, but I feel a little better that I'm not alone.

I myself am not phobic of roaches (spiders, in my case), but my roommate is (deathly so) and so I found this blog when, like most everyone here, I was hunting the exact term for her phobia.

We live in Georgia (as my roommate so aptly described it, "the womb of breeding insects"), and so we see not just a few of them.

Relating actually to Emmanuel's original topic, we've had a problem with roaches (AND spiders) since we moved into our apartment almost six months ago.

We've laid down multiple roach traps (check-in-no-check-out), sprayed everything all over with Raid, keep everything clean and had the edges of the doors sealed to near-impenetrability, and STILL the motherf*ck*rs get in.

We have made multiple and consistent complaints and reports to our leasing office, and all they ever do is sound out the exterminator they have on contract to spray (despite that his efforts are obviously not working). Apparently apartment management doesn't feel bothered with residents' bug problems. I'm going to have to see if there's something in the lease I can use to nail them to the wall for this.

I have to say, we've recognized a lot of our own antics and experiences in all of your testimonies here, and I have to wonder why in HELL there's not a specific term for roach phobia when obviously it's not a minority fear.

Heh, that, and my roomie and I would be in damn sad shape if I was phobic of the nasty bastards as well. I hate the filthy devils, rest assured, but someone in this house has to kill 'em. (thankfully, it's a give and take--I off the roaches, she ends the spiders.)

Seeing as how I can't have my friend and rentmate expiring of terror, we just might have to look into drain covers and geckos. :) Thanks everyone.

I am reading all these posts and identifying with each one. I have a genuine PHOBIA of roaches. I scream, panic, heart races, anxiety, the whole thing. I have just had a friend come over and put foam in every opening, caulk all over, put Boric Acid all over and I also have roach traps set out everywhere

I have those electronic pest control devices that plug in and I just ordered 4 more --the expensive kinds

This phobia rules me--I have trouble sleeping thinking one wil get on me

About 3 weeks ago I got up to go the bathroom at 4 am and there was a HUGE on by the toilet--I screamed and jumped up on the toilet (and I am 57 years old and more than a little plump) .......calling for my husband.

Then the other morning I walked into the kitchen and an even bigger one was dead in front of the fridge--I threw a phone book on top of it and left it there.

I know this fear is irrational and I went to the Dr and asked him for some kind of anti anxiety meds to help.......he gave me something that will cost me $60 a month and I have not started taking it yet but will do so soon.

At least I know I am not alone in my fear. There must be some inate, primative, throwback reason we are so afraid of these disgusting things.

I pray to God all the time to help me deal with this.

Thank you for sharing your stories.

Hi, I also came to this blog looking for a name to my roach phobia.

I've been petrified of roaches since I was a little girl. I live in Florida and we used to live in a BIG OLD ROTTING house so I would see them almost every night when I was small. The worst experiences I've had with them there is one crawling over me while I was sleeping, finding a dead one in my room and seeing one crawl across the wall.

I don't feel a fear of roaches is irrational, but mine is definitely irrational. I just saw one outside, but I'm scared to death it'll get in while I'm sleeping!! I have work tomorrow, but I wont be able to sleep now at all and my roommate is out tonight... Mmmmmhmmm so scared!

I get really nervous, my heart pounds and I get very alert and jumpy to everything. I seperate myself from the bug as quickly as I can, find a "safe" or open zone and cry my eyes out.

I hate this damn fear because it makes me feel so weak. I've been seeing so many of them lately, I really need some help!

I feel a lot better reading about all of you who are scared to death like me. My family and friends constantly make fun of me because of my fear. I seriously am DEATHLY afraid of them. Like others, I too get panic attacks and stop breathing. I cry a lot too. I feel like such a chicken. I can't even be in the same room with one...not even a dead one. It makes me want to die, seriously! I think someone should develop a study to help us get over our fear. It's terribly difficult to live with. However, I've made progress. I killed a HUGE HUGE one tonight. It took 409, Greased Lightning, and some sort of mildew remover...oh and hairspray to get it frozen. Then I sprayed it some more until finally it ended up on a pair of pants i had lying on the floor. I then used a yard stick to pick up the pants and place them in a box to carry it outside. I'm very proud of myself. It was a big step for me....one I hope to never take again. Now I don't feel so alone in my fear. We all share the same fear, so it can't be stupid, right?

Seriously, everyone thinks I'm either crazy, or totally faking it. I CAN'T even bring myself to LOOK at a roach if it's in my apartment, let along kill it. I have very similar "symptoms" as listed above me. I completely freeze, I get chills all over my body, I start shaking. Usually I scream at the top of my lungs, but the funny thing is I never remember screaming. I have a guy roomate and he tells me that it sounds like someone is murdering me, but I can never recall actually screaming. I'm completely terrified of them, and I know it's irrational. Deadly poisonous spiders don't even scare me as much as roaches. It probably has something to do with the fact that when I was ten there was a roach in the bottom of my cup. I drank the whole thing before I realized. As I'm typing this (which is really only fueling my insanity) there is one downstairs in my car. I got in the car to go somewhere and it was above my head. I didn't notice until I got to the front of my neighborhood. I'm contemplating what to do...I have class in an hour and I'm probably going to miss it if I can't find a ride. I'm such a spaz. I'm the lightest sleeper ever because if I feel my hair brush my skin or something I jump immediately thinking it's a roach. Seriously, I have issues.
